Basic Skills provides instruction to students in beginning and intermediate reading and math. Students can attend small group classes or receive instruction from trained volunteer tutors. Basic Skills is a self-paced program designed to help students achieve their own specific goals. Basic Skills is Project Learn’s oldest program, having been a signature component throughout its history.
Basic Skills uses a renowned curriculum – The Laubach Way to Reading – which has been employed by literacy programs throughout the world for over fifty years. It is carefully designed to move students through a series of structured lessons until they achieve basic reading competence.
Basic reading instruction for adults has been the cornerstone of Project Learn’s overall programming, and in that time very few other organizations have offered basic reading instruction to adults. Today Project Learn remains as the one organization in Greater Cleveland providing basic literacy instruction to adults.
